In Chelsea's draw against West Ham, coach Graham Potter was said to be too "gentle" before the referee's decisions and he was not satisfied with this comment.
What Graham Potter said when he was criticized for being "too gentle"
Chelsea were held 1-1 by West Ham in the match last weekend. More importantly, Chelsea lost a penalty after Soucek of the host let the ball touch his hand in the penalty area. Although very upset with the referee's decision, coach Graham Potter was still relatively calm and did not show too strong emotions - like many other coaches.
Potter's reaction was met with mixed reviews. On talkSport, Martin Keown commented that Potter was "too gentle and sometimes needs to be angry". And Rio Ferdinand and Joe Cole shared on BT Sport that the Chelsea captain needed to speak more instead of being too "diplomatic".
Graham Potter was clearly displeased with the above comment. Sharing before the match against Dortmund, Potter said: "I always try to avoid falling into discussions with the media. As for me personally, I am clearly angry with the decision to ignore the penalty from the referee. I'm just a normal person, just like everyone else.

Graham Potter doesn't like being called too kind
The difference lies in the way I deal with the problem, I choose to be an outsider. That is not to say that we always remain calm. There are times when I, like everyone else, lose my temper, that's how I feel. But at the same time, I think I need to have a responsibility to myself, to Chelsea, to the game to behave properly.
I don't see any relevance when the media thinks I should be angry like this, at the same time as directing readers to the problems between the coach and the referee. There is no connection here at all!
If anyone thinks that a coach who started out in the 9th division of English football and then climbed to his current position - leading Chelsea in the Champions League is someone who is never angry, or always gentle, then it is clear. That person knows nothing in the world!"
Chelsea are having a rough start to 2023. Coach Potter's team has only 1 win and the Blues still need to improve a lot if they want to enter the top 4 this season.
