Morocco's gameplay: Nightmare of those who like to attack

Morocco has reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup 2022. A fairy tale written by Morocco but looking at what it has shown since the beginning of the tournament, this achievement is completely deserved.

Morocco has entered the quarterfinals of the World Cup 2022 after beating Spain on a penalty shootout in the round of 16. The representative of Africa created the next earthquake when for the first time present in the quarterfinals of a World Cup.

Morocco has performed an extremely uncomfortable play in the last 4 matches. Notably, their only goal since the beginning of the tournament came from an own goal and Croatia, Belgium, Canada or Spain were all unable to penetrate Bounou's own net.

Regragui's army has very little control of the ball and has never reached 50% in the last 4 matches. Morocco always gives up the game to the opponent to deepen the formation, but that does not mean that they let the opponent easily deploy the attack.

Always at least 9 players appear in 1/3 of the home area and keep the formation very well. The attacking players of Belgium and Spain such as Pedri, Hazard, De Bruyne, Ferran Torres are always surrounded by at least 2-3 Moroccan players close to the 16m50 area to limit the space to play.

With Croatia, they also struggled to get the ball into the Moroccan box when Modric, Perisic and Brozovic were not enough to deal with at least 6-7 opponents in front of them. Croatia's crosses like in the match against Japan also did not work when Mazraoui and Hakimi played very firmly.

The very annoying pragmatic defensive style has been created by Morocco and their 4 opponents do not have players who possess "cutting" passes and link well with attack like Thiago, Bruno Fernandes or Frenkie De. Jong. Morocco's tactics really have countered strong teams in attack while causing inhibition and impatience for opponents with fouls.

Morocco will face Portugal in the quarterfinals. The representative of Africa will have to play much more resilient when Portugal has scored 6 goals against Switzerland with a variety of attacking pieces. It will be another difficult match for Regragui's army and hopefully they will continue to write their fairy tale at this year's World Cup.
